Passed away peacefully with her family by her side at the F.J. Davey Home on Sunday, March 8, 2026, in her 87th year.
Family was the most important thing to Cecile. Predeceased by her parents, Albert and Cecile Shaughnessy. Cecile was happily married for 48 years to her soulmate Clifford "Kip" Fleming (predeceased in 2009). Cherished mother of Donald Lachapelle (Marilena), Kim Fleming (Diane), Ricky Fleming (Kathy), and Cliff Fleming (Sherri). Devoted and loving, hands-on Nana of Denis Langlois (Matt), Bradley Langlois (Hailey), Catherine Martinsen (Christian), Nicole Mclaughlin (Dave) and Kip Fleming (Maija). Cecile "Nana" also had a special place in her heart for Genevieve Lachapelle, Dominique Lachapelle, Matthew Otto (Meghan), Emma Ventham (Frank), Michael Irwin (Alison), Raija Nielsen (Mitch), and Kailyn Morrar (Brock). Especially close to her great-grandchildren Adam, Braeden, Layla, Lexin and Jaxon, who spent many treasured moments with her, and also remembered by great-grandchildren Charlie, Drew, Brecken, Macy, Olivia, Rowen, Aksel and Harper.
Cecile was the baby girl in a family of nine and will be sadly missed by her last-remaining sibling, Gerald Shaughnessy (Mary). Cecile was predeceased by her other siblings Arnold Shaughnessy (late Joyce), Helen Fleming (late Albert Pigeon and late Bruce Fleming), Florence McCauley (late Herman), Ruth Mullin (late Bill), John Shaughnessy (late Donna), June Armstrong (late Gus Armstrong and late Barry Wilson) and Ken Shaughnessy (Adeline ‘Susie’). Cecile was also loved by Kip’s family and will be missed by his siblings, Bessie Fleming and Jeanette Maki (late Jim). Cecile was predeceased by Kip’s other siblings, June Barill (late Fred), Wesley Fleming, Herbert Fleming, Lorna Mutch (late Stewart), Bruce Fleming (late Helen) and Gary Fleming (late Joan). Special aunt of Sherry Lamoureux (Raymond) as well as many other nieces and nephews whom she loved. Cousin Neyda (nee Allinotte) Bellerose will miss Cecile at the F. J. Davey Home.
Cecile exuded love, kindness, and warmth. In every way, love has been the guiding theme of her life. Despite experiencing a fair share of challenges, including health issues in her childhood and the heartbreak of losing the love of her life, Kip Fleming, in 2009, Cecile always led with a smile and made everyone she met feel special and loved.
Cecile loved her children with her whole heart and served as the emotional anchor of their lives. She was also the best nana to her grandchildren. She made each grandchild feel loved and treasured. She had a unique gift of never making anyone feel more or less loved than the other — whether it came to her children, grandchildren, or great-grandchildren. Each one felt Cecile’s full love.
Throughout her life, Cecile’s love language was food. She prepared large, delicious meals for Easter, Christmas, and other special occasions, cooked breakfasts and lunches for family members and friends who would stop by her home, and became famous, within her family, for her scrumptious pies, cookies, and other tasty treats. No one left Cecile’s home with an empty stomach. Cecile could make your day with her big smile, which earned her the nickname, Smiley. When most people think of Cecile, they recall that beautiful smile and the warm hugs that almost always followed. Her legacy in this life was the power of making people feel special, loved, and seen.
A special thank you to the staff at the F.J. Davey Home for providing Cecile with wonderful care and love, including during the last moments of her life.
