Claire Elizabeth McGuire

December 10, 1933April 30, 2021

MCGUIRE, Claire Elizabeth, RN (nee Johnston) - Peacefully at the Sault Area Hospital on Friday, April 30, 2021, at the age of 87.

Beloved wife of the late Philip McGuire. Loving mother of Kevin (Enloe “Sean” Wilson), late Patrick, and late Shawn. Dear sister of Margaret Elliott (late Ken), late Nita Romyn (late John), and late John Johnston.

Upon graduating from Sudbury General Hospital’s Marymount School of Nursing in 1956, Claire began a long and distinguished nursing career at the Sault General Hospital in Obstetrics and Long Term Care. Her faith, family, and friends carried her through many challenging times, and she was blessed with a life overflowing with love. She cherished the knitting and scrapbooking groups from the Sault Senior Citizens’ Drop-In Centre, her swim gang, her fellow retired nurses, her church community, a wide extended family, and countless friends – her “adopted family.” The list is all too long to mention, but if you knew Claire, you are on the list.

Claire’s family thanks the Sault Area Hospital doctors, nurses, rehabilitation team, and staff for their incredible care and compassion.

Due to COVID restrictions, a private family service will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, May 6, 2021, at the Arthur Funeral Home – Barton & Kiteley Chapel (492 Wellington St. E., Sault Ste. Kevin, I am so sorry to hear that your Mom has passed away. She was a really lovely lady. I will always remember meeting you at ICAO and finding out that she lived with my family when I was about 5 years old while she was a student nurse (we lived very close to the old Sault hospitals). And my parents attended her wedding to your Dad! I really enjoyed meeting her (again) when she visited in Toronto. My Dad Bill sends his condolences to you as well.

Stay well and cherish your loving memories. Nora

Kevin,
My deepest sympathies. Your mom was a wonderful friend. She had such a joy for life and liked to share it with everyone she met. She had a positive impact on all the lives she touched. She will be missed but i’m sure God had an important job that only she could do.

May you find peace in your memories of her,
Marg Lauzon

On behalf of everyone associated with the Canadian Congenital Heart Alliance, thank you so much for choosing to invite friends and relatives to make In Memoriam gifts to us. That was so nice of you to suggest this to her colleagues.

Congenital heart disease is the #1 birth defect and affects 1/100 babies in some way. Donations received by the CCHA will help those born with CHD.

Thank you for thinking of others at this time.
