He was deeply involved in his community and took great pride in helping build the Desbarats Arena, a lasting contribution to the township he loved. Well-liked and deeply loved by all who knew him, he dedicated much of his life to public service. He served on municipal council for 43 years, including roles as Councillor, Reeve and Mayor, where his leadership and commitment helped shape his community for generations.
He also worked for the City of Sault Ste. Marie as a General Foreman for over 30 years and spent time working in the logging industry. In 1958, he had the honour of serving Queen Elizabeth II during her visit to Sault Ste. Marie. Throughout his life, he served on many boards and committees, always looking for ways to give back.
Ellwood enjoyed hunting, coaching hockey, and ice fishing, and he especially loved travelling with his children and with his beloved wife, Pat. His greatest joy was the time spent with those he loved most.
