With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Lesley Chambers, who peacefully passed away on the morning of Sunday, March 8, 2026, at the age of 84, with her granddaughter lovingly by her side at the Algoma Residential Community Hospice (ARCH), following a courageous battle with cancer.
Lesley was born on March 29, 1941, in Holmfirth, Yorkshire, England. In 1965, she and her beloved husband Alex left England together in search of adventure and the opportunities that Canada offered. Their journey first brought them to Hearst, Ontario, before eventually settling in Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario, where they built their life and raised their family.
In their 65th year of marriage, she leaves behind her devoted husband, Alex Chambers. Loving mother to daughter Jan (Andy), and sons Ian (Mitzi) and Lee. Cherished grandmother to Alisha, Jennifer (Alejandro), Jessica (Jessie), and Sierra (Brandon). Proud and adoring great-grandmother to Arianna, Connor, Sebastian, Jordyn, Aidyn, and Millie, who she loved deeply and treasured time with them all.
Lesley and Alex embraced life in Canada wholeheartedly, enjoying many years of camping and outdoor adventures across North America. She later found great joy spending summers on St. Joseph’s Island and winters in Florida with Alex.
Family meant everything to Lesley. She loved nothing more than being surrounded by them, especially gathered around the table playing cards, sharing laughs, and enjoying each other’s company. Known for her strong spirit, honesty, and sense of humor, Lesley had a way of speaking her mind while still making those around her feel loved.
In her final days, one of her simple wishes was to see the green grass again. We hope she is now resting peacefully, surrounded by sunshine and green grass once more.
She will be dearly missed by her wonderful friends whose lives she touched over the years.
A special thank you to the nurses and staff at the Algoma Residential Community Hospice (ARCH). Although her time there was short, her wish to spend her final days there was fulfilled, and the care and compassion shown to her and our family meant so much.
At Lesley’s request, no services will be held. Cremation has taken place. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to ARCH, the SAH Foundation, or to organizations supporting cancer care and research.
Her love for family will live on in the stories we share, the laughter around a table of cards, and the many memories she leaves in our hearts.
Arrangements entrusted to Arthur Funeral Home - Barton & Kiteley Chapel (492 Wellington Street East; 705-759-2522). Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.arthurfuneralhome.com for the Chambers family.
