Joan passed away peacefully at the Algoma Residential Community Hospice at the age of 65, on Saturday, March 14th, 2026 after a long battle with cancer.
Cherished partner, wife and best friend to Dan since they first met in 1988. She was the beloved mom to Ben (Diandra) and Paul (Bettina) as well as a loving step-mother to Matthew (Megan) and Danielle. She was especially proud to be “Nana” to Madeline and Wesley. A cherished sister of Calna McGoldrick (late Scott), Pamela Orchard (Lynn), late Steve (Marjorie), Judy Mills (Gerald), Kevin (Beth) and Shauna. Special loving aunt to Sarah (Michael), David (Celia), Brian (Jill), Caryn (Ryan), Michael (Amanda), Dalaina (Philip), Ryan (Bonny), Alicia (J.R.), Amanda (David), Chris (Amy), Jocelyn (Andy), Thomas, Malcolm, Bill (Ami) and Jeremy (Cheryl). Joan was also a great-aunt to many grand-nieces and nephews. A loving daughter to Hugh and Leone Orr (both pre-deceased). Dear daughter-in-law of Angelo and Mary Tonon (both pre-deceased) and sister-in-law of the late Cathy, Jack (Terry), and the late Jim (Donna).
Joan had a brilliant mind and held several analytics and decision-support roles during her career in the Northern Ontario hospital system.
Joan was the definition of kindness, she loved her family dearly and enjoyed having them all together for family events and holidays. She loved to cook and to entertain. She was always willing to unselfishly help others, both family and her professional colleagues. She will be missed greatly but we are forever grateful for the wonderful times we've all had together.
"Her greatest gift was the love she poured into her family, a gift that will keep growing through generations."
The family would like to thank Dr. Vogel and his staff at Princess Margaret Hospital, Dr. Beecroft Toronto General, Dr. Rassouli and nurse Jen at the Cancer clinic at the Sault Area Hospital. A special thank you for the help provided by nurse Amy with Algoma Health. The family would also like to thank the wonderful staff at ARCH for their dedicated and compassionate care.
As per Joan's wishes, cremation has taken place and a celebration of life will be scheduled for a later date. Arrangements entrusted to the Arthur Funeral Home - Barton & Kiteley Chapel (492 Wellington Street East; 705-759-2522). Memorial contributions made (payable online or by cheque) to ARCH would be greatly appreciated. Please visit www.arthurfuneralhome.com to leave memories and condolences as a keepsake for the family.
