BURNS, John Robert - transported suddenly from the F. J. Davey Home to his Heavenly Home early Wednesday morning, Wednesday, July 16, 2025 - is truly alive in Heaven with his wonderful Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ.
John is the much loved only son of the late Jessie and late George Burns. He is the special cousin of Rae and Sharon Burns, Gloria Burns, and many, many other cousins and their families.
Born and raised in Sault Ste. Marie Ontario, John worked at RJ’s (before it was called RJ’s) from his late teens until retirement - also delivering groceries to elderly neighbours. He was always known for his kindness - even happily answering a phone call at three in the morning from a distressed elderly neighbour who needed help to get a boot off! The story of how John helped a runaway teen get reunited with her mother while he was vacationing at Vancouver will be shared at his funeral. All are welcome to attend the funeral and hear the letter John wrote detailing the advice he gave to both mother and daughter as God led him. John enjoyed many bus trips all over Canada and loved going to the Toronto Exhibition. John loved to attend Greyhound hockey games and also cheered for the Toronto Maple Leafs - collecting an abundance of souvenirs! He kept restaurants in business because of his love of hamburgs and french fries.
After retirement John moved to Light Haven Christian Retirement Home in Bruce Mines. When Vonnie and Danny were the directors, Danny spent much time helping John understand the Bible. John loved to tell others what he learned and taped many things about Jesus on his door.
For several years, John wrote articles for the Sentinel about Light Haven Home, Lighthouse Church, and Bruce Mines.
After a back injury, John moved to the F. J. Davey Home in the Sault. He faithfully attended the Monday night and Sunday afternoon Church services and loved all the music programs. He continued to write notes of encouragement - especially to the caring workers in the Cedar Wing and they even gave John a big beautiful Teddy Bear. Special thanks to the doctor, nurses and staff at the F. J. Davey Home for all their loving care.
All are invited to Bethel Bible Chapel (686 Black Road) on Thursday, July 24, 2025 for visitation at 1:30 and the Funeral Service at 2 pm in the Fellowship Hall with Pastor Nicholas Sarlo officiating. Memorial donation (payable by cheque or online) to Share Word Global (Gideons) or Aush-Bik-Koong Bible Camp would be appreciated and would share the Love of God. Arrangements entrusted to Arthur Funeral Home - Barton & Kiteley Chapel (492 Wellington St. E. 705-759-2522). Fond memories and expressions of sympathy can be shared at www.arthurfuneralhome.com for the family.
John loved to share the Word of God with others - like his favourite Bible verse: John 3:16
“For God so loved the world (that’s John & You!) that He gave His only begotten Son (that’s Jesus!) that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life!”
