

Born on February 26, 1945, in Windsor, Ontario, John was the son of Clair and Beulah Tully. John is lovingly remembered by his devoted wife, Judy; his daughter Leah; his son Brock and daughter-in-law Miranda; and his cherished granddaughters, Ella and Mikaela. Brother Tom (Sheila), sister Jean Griffin (Malcolm, deceased).
John dedicated much of his life to education, teaching history and English at Bawating Collegiate from 1974 to 1975, and then at White Pines Collegiate & Vocational School from 1975 until his retirement in 2000. During his time at White Pines, he was a passionate mentor, leading both the Chess Club and the Outers Club, inspiring generations of students.
A true outdoorsman, John found great joy in nature. He was an avid canoeist and craftsman, building more than a dozen cedar strip canoes. His happiest moments were spent at the family cottage on the Pickerel River, where he enjoyed fishing, canoeing, and sharing stories. In the winter months, he embraced the season through skiing, snowshoeing, and ice fishing.
John also had a lifelong love of music. In his younger years, he played the drums and banjo, and he continued to share his musical talents through musical theatre, church and chamber choir (Chambers Singers of Algoma) and local barbershop quartets.
John and Judy were longtime, devoted members of St. Andrew’s Church, where they found community and fellowship.
John will be remembered as an adventurer, a storyteller, a dedicated teacher, and a loving husband, father, and grandfather. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

A visitation & memorial service will be held on Sunday, April 5, 2026 from 1:30-2:30 pm at Arthur Funeral Home – Barton & Kiteley Chapel (492 Wellington St. E; 705-759-2522), with the memorial service starting at 2:30 pm. In the late spring, a graveside ceremony will be held in Kingsville Ontario. More details will follow.
