It is with saddened hearts that we announce the passing of a husband and a dear father. He peacefully passed away at the SAH, surrounded by his family - Marilyn, his wife of 65 years, and daughters Sherry and Carrie.
He will be greatly missed and fondly remembered by his daughters Sherry Walsh, Carrie Bovingdon (Tim) and his grandchildren Lindsay Bovingdon (Bryce Grimard), Kaylin Bovingdon and Karley Bovingdon. Cherished great grandfather of Emersen, Rosie and Eloise Grimard. John is survived by his sister Jackie Case (Don) his brother Terry (Patti), his three great nieces Liane Shura (Bart), Leslie Conway and Lela Conway and his great great nephew Devon and great great nieces Emma and Brielle. He is predeceased by his niece Marlene Walsh.
John worked as a supervisor at Mannesmann Tube for many years and retired in 1983. He was a fierce competitor in many sports and most recently revived his love for the game of pool at the senior center, where he met several wonderful new friends and mentors of the game. John prided himself on always putting his family first and will best be remembered as a real character, with his big heart and smile, a quick wit and a great sense of humour! He felt truly blessed in his life and would often proclaim that he had "the luck of the Irish".
John wanted to especially thank the doctors and nurses at the Sault Area Hospital Cancer Clinic, who provided him with excellent care, and to the entire staff on 3A who treated him with dignity and kindness. Special thank to Dr. Spadafora, Dr. Taylor, Dr. Buehner and Dr. O'Brien. He is thankful for the many years he was under the care of Dr. Sibbald, Dr. Hill, Dr. Allen and Dr. Culina. A special thank you also to Aaron - John's favourite Irish nurse. Many thanks to our dear friends Annette and Euan Aitken.
