She was a loving wife, a devoted mother and grandmother, sister, aunt, friend and Grama Kay to many. To family and friends who knew her best, she will be remembered for her infectious giggle and her endless hugs. To know her was to love her.
Kay was born on November 14, 1935 at home in Arthur Township Ontario. She was the daughter of Ian and Ella McLellan. Kay grew up on the family farm in Arthur Township with her brother Bob, sister Joan and a sister Margaret that sadly passed away as an infant.
She met the love of her life, George while working at the local snack shack when she was just sixteen. The two fell in love and were married on May 7, 1955 at Bethel United Church, in Arthur Township. During the early part of their marriage they lived in Toronto, Elliott Lake and soon settled in Sault Ste Marie. During this time they started their own family.
She worked so hard to be a good mother to her six children and she did her best to fulfill their needs. The children lucky enough to call her mom are Diane, Darlene, David, Gwen, Sandra and Lisa. Another blessing for Kay was the birth of twelve grandchildren, whom she adored. David, Brett, Marty, Christina, William, Daniel, Hannah, Rees, Shekanah, Oksana, Krista and Robert were the recipients of her never ending love and devotion.
Kay enjoyed her leisure time by taking part in various hobbies. She enjoyed puttering in the vegetable garden and flower beds. She was an avid ten pin bowler for many years. She loved to play cards and board games with whoever was brave enough to challenge her, as she very seldom lost. Spending time with her children and grandchildren was by far her favourite pass time. She would attend any school or sporting event the kids were participating in. At the end of the day you could find her asleep with her Harlequin Romance novel still in her hands.
She was a proud member of Emmanuel United Church of Sault Ste. Marie for many years. The phone would ring on many occasions with requests for her pies for many church dinners. She took great pride in working with the other church members serving the less fortunate at the local Soup Kitchen.
Kay loved to travel and enjoyed numerous weekends away. She loved to visit new places and experience new things. Favorite vacations included driving to Chase British Columbia to spend quality time with her brother Bob and his family. She looked forward to her trips to Calgary Alberta to visit with Diane and her family. Bowling tournaments in Michigan with her friends was always an adventure. Many trips were made to Mount Forest for quality time with her sister Joan and other family members. Trips to Southern Ontario to see Lisa and Gwen were also numerous. Her favourite location of all was the family camp on Wart Lake.
She will be remembered for her love and devotion to her family and friends. The memories that she has created with them will be forever instilled in their hearts.
Her favourite song was "You are my Sunshine" to her family and friends she was "Our Sunshine" Someday we will all be reunited
"Somewhere over the Rainbow"
Forever loved and never forgotten.
