Laurie and Brian are heartbroken as we announce the sudden and tragic passing of our dear daughter Lindsay. Words cannot describe the emptiness we feel and the pain we are going through.
Lindsay is the granddaughter of David and Marie Watkins, late Betty Andrews, late Donald Andrews and the late Peter Potvin. To Grandma Betty, her idol, who we lost so recently; Lindsay is on her way for you to take care of each other.
Lindsay is the niece of Gary and Marie Lynn Potvin, Patti and Donnie Wierzbicki, God parents Jim and Sue St. Jules and Kevin and Belinda Watkins. She is a loved cousin by Scott (Krystyna), Amy (Bob), Katie, Nicole, Mike (Nicole), Emily (Mike), Joey (Carla), Jamie-Lyn (Rob) and all of their children Ryder, Leela, Ryder, Emma, Peter, Max, Joey, Maggie, Matthew, Jacob and Daniel.
Lindsay will be lovingly remembered by her special Gaetano family, Auntie Sandra, Uncle Randy, "brother and sister" Kristian (Peter) and Marissa (Adam) and their children Ryder, Farrah and Summer. She will be missed and forever loved by her exchange student sister, from a faraway land, our Sophie Chandauka.
Our Lindsay had a heart of gold. She was thoughtful, caring, generous and compassionate. She loved family and friends. She was smart, articulate, amazing at arts and crafts and had a beautiful voice when she sang. If you were real lucky you would experience her one of a kind belly laughs.
We endured this illness, the troubling times and it's consequences together. We always knew that she was in there, and that she loved us dearly. We never gave up on her and she never gave up on us. We needed and counted on each other equally. This was our battle together, our cause. Blame and judgement were not an issue. We would say that we would love her into wellness.
We have a saying that angels, as we describe our Lindsay, have come into our lives on so many occasions and in so many different ways. We cannot begin to express to all of our family, friends, neighbours, acquaintances, and even strangers how much your support, kind words and encouragement have been appreciated. Lindsay truly knew how much you cared.
Please understand, appreciate their efforts, and realize how difficult it is for anyone working in the environment brought on by this terrible disease, what they do and what they endure. Our Social Services providers are amazing people that assisted in so many ways. Our Police Services are frontline and caring and doing so much more than enforcement in this absolutely terrible era. Our local shelters, agencies and support providers are contributing in countless ways. To Lindsay's Dear Uncle Gary, thank you for your assistance on July 1st, we will never forget that. Thank you so very much to all of you at Sault Area Hospital who assisted in caring for Lindsay and us during "our" search for a way out of this. You are all special and too numerous to mention. We had our team of Paul, Erica, Molly and Dr. Emmalee. We truly gave it our best shot, thank you.
To anyone in a similar position with a loved one "NEVER GIVE UP"

Kristian: My parents and I met Lindsay on Dec 3 1983, just a couple of hours after uncle Brian and Auntie Laurie brought her home. I was too young to remember but my parents have shared a number of times of the absolute love, joy and happiness they felt coming from this new family.
In my early years, I was lucky enough to have Linsday live just a few doors down the street which made for an instant best friend. Growing up, Lindsay was such an important part of our family. We experienced many of our early childhood firsts together with trips, birthday parties, plays, commiserating over our parents endless prank war on each other and spent countless hours together riding bikes and creating imaginary worlds. From a young age, Lindsay’s creativity and imagination made everyday life more exciting. This continued through our teenage and adult years as we often caught up on fun memories of times together, going to camp on the island, adventures to wonderland and north bay. One thing we looked forward to each year was spending Christmas eve together where Lindsay “strongly suggested” we do Kareoke but then refused to give up the microphone all night.
Lindsay was full of heart and loved deeply. She loved her mom and dad, and of course her pup Rio, unconditionally and we know she was so grateful for the unwavering love they returned. Even through some of her most difficult challenges, she always made an effort to reach out and let those around her know how much they mean to her. I feel so lucky to have had her as such an important part of my life.
Marissa: Like my brother, uncle Brian Auntie Laurie and Lindsay were in my life from the very beginning. I never had a sister. The closest person growing up in our world in that role was Lindsay. Growing up, Linsday would always keep an eye out for me and would go out of her way to sing to me and tickle my back to help me get to sleep.
One thing that remained since we were little was her love of Disney movies. Some of her favourites were Lady and the Tramp and Bambi… many close to her have probably heard her quote Thumper with one of her main comebacks “"If you can’t say anything nice don’t say anything at all". Lindsay has a great sense of humor and loved to laugh. Her wit was sharp and her comebacks quick.
We have so many memories. Good times and sad. Today is heartbreaking for all of us as we have to say goodbye to someone we love deeply, far too soon. Today is a time to remember the love we share for Lindsay and the impact her generosity and love will have on us forever.
As Lindsays life was met with challenges, we all marvelled at the unwavering support and love she was shown every day from her parents. they never once gave up supporting her even though others in a similar circumstances may have.
Uncle Brian and Auntie Laurie please know that we can’t begin to imagine the hurt you are feeling but you can take comfort in knowing how how much she loved you.
Kristian: Lindsay was a unique part of an amazingly loved and respected family...everyone who had the pleasure of meeting and knowing Lindsay knew she came from a place of real love. Life will never be the same for all of us. A light has gone out in our world and along with it the warmth, comfort and joy it shone on us of all.
Uncle Brian and Auntie Laurie; everyone in your life knows how bravely you stood beside Lindsay every single day. Patient, loving , caring and optimistic. They all know that you did everything in your power in every situation to protect her from harm. Your courage and caring continues as you reach out to everyone who is supporting and encouraging someone in their own families who may be facing difficult times with your simple message that you abide by....Never Give Up.
