NEVEU, Margaret Joyce - My Mama has left us to make her journey to the Spirit World on Monday, September 15, 2025. Creator called her after a courageous stand off. She joins her Mother, Father and other family members that we dearly love and miss.
Margaret Joyce Neveu was born on June 16, 1953 in Batchewana Village, ON to the late Jeanne and Wilfred Neveu.
Maggie was in a hurry to enter the world and couldn't wait to go to the hospital so she was born at home. "The Do it Yourself Kid" as mom would call herself. Bbik was the spirit name her father gave her meaning "little flea" as she was in such a hurry.
Maggie enjoyed life on her own terms, A Mother, Daughter, Noko (Grandmother) , Auntie, Niece, Sister, Sister-in-law and Friend. Hard times would never keep her down for long and she always had kind words and a smile to give to another to cheer their day.
Maggie leaves "her kids" to carry on her legacy. Her only child, Tammy. Her favourite son-in-law, Neil. Her grandchildren Elijah Mitchell and Kendall Mitchell (Nic Foglia) and her grand puppy Stanley.
Her daughter was her pride and joy, but her crowning glory was being Noko (short for Nokomis) to her precious grandchildren.
She will be sadly missed by her siblings, May Brooks (late Jim), Shirley Neveu (late Terry Burch), Leonard Neveu (Sheila), Rosemarie Walshe (James), late Janice Aiudi, David Neveu (Wendy), Wilfred Neveu Jr. (Kelly), Raymond Neveu ( Lorna), Helena Neveu, Theresa Neveu (Melissa Simard) and Chosen Sister of Lynn Tomie.
Special Auntie of Chris MacKnight, late Rick MacKnight, Jen MacKnight (Scott Slater), Jodie Neveu (Melanie Ambeault), Mike Gadke ( Amanda ), Rhapsody Neveu, Rachelle Neveu, Angie Kilby, Bill Kilby, Lina DiPasquale (Mark), Tara Gauthier (Travis), late Frankie Aiudi, Christopher Koningen Neveu (Andrea), Andrew Koningen Neveu (Christina), James Neveu, Kaitlyn Neveu (Kyle Sayers), Kyle Neveu, Amanda Neveu, Matthew Neveu (Ramona), Dana Delayer, and James Delayer (Melissa), Great Auntie to many nieces and nephews. Godmother to Tara Gauthier and Raiya Kilby.
Maggie was the most amazing outdoors woman. A shy, quiet, gentle soul yet fiercely stubborn in the best of ways. Her passions were being with her kids and family, crossword puzzles, hunting and fishing. In true Anishinaabe fashion, Maggie shot a recurve bow for partridge, best shot was one through the neck! If you went fishing with her, you always knew she would out fish you too! She split and hauled her own firewood and she was the best Fire tender. She will be fondly remembered for her resilience, quiet strength, infectious giggle, kind heart and dedication and love for her family and stellar fish filleting skills.
Through these past few months Maggie faced this disease with dignity, grace and fear, as many do. No one wants to take such a beast head on, But she did! As Maggie prepared for her journey, it is her daughter that has given her her Spirit Name, Ogichidaakwe, Strong Woman/Warrior Woman. May you traverse your new world with the grace, dignity, honesty, humility and quiet fierceness that made you who you are Ogichidaakwe.
The family would like to thank some special nurses we had in Maggies's final days MacKenzie, Megan, Kory, Stef and Jen. You cared and you tried. To Dr. Booth, Dr. A & Dr. White for seeing Maggie, the person and not just the disease to kill that lived in her body. To the amazing people of ARCH, your kindness, compassion and care gave her the dignity she so deserved and we will be forever grateful for the peace and comfort you so freely give to all who enter your doors.
Tammy would like to acknowledge her Mama's special Earth Angels who were there every step with love in more ways than she could ever begin to describe. Aunt Shirl, Aunt Tree, Aunt Melissa, Lynn, Sheri and her chosen daughter Caroline. In a time of great relentless uncertainty, fear and confusion - you made our days just a little bit better. And to my husband and children; your love and support held me up.
Maggie was surrounded by her family and drummed out from ARCH by her sister, Helena with her beautiful moccasins on made with love for her journey.
Maggie will be cremated at River's Edge Cremation Centre and a Celebration of Life will be held at Arthur Funeral Home - Barton & Kiteley Chapel (492 Wellington St. E 705-759-2522) on Monday, September 22, 2025 from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm. Memorial donations (made payable by cheque or online) to ARCH would be greatly appreciated to help them continue on doing so much good for the people who need them.
* And when one of us is gone, and one of us is left to carry on,
Then remembering will have to do
Our memories alone will get us through
Think about the days of Me and You,
You and Me against the world.
I Love You Mama. Forever & Ever & N'deh
