MAGLI, Maria - It is with profound sadness and broken hearts that we announce that Maria Magli went peacefully to her heavenly home on Wednesday, May 17, 2023. She is now reunited with her first-born child whom she missed very much.
Maria was the cherished and devoted wife of Vito Magli. The loving and proud mother of Anna Smith (Kevin), Donatella Magli, Frank Magli (Lina), Joe Magli, Jimmy Magli (Sara), and Michael Magli (Lindsay). Much loved Nonna to her beautiful grandchildren Brianna, Christian, Matthew, Alexander, Payton, Sienna, and Blake. Her grandchildren adored their Nonna, and her loss will leave a big hole in their hearts. Beloved sister of Giulia Pagnotta (late Giuseppe) and Nicola Medaglia (Maria). Sister-in-law of Maria Ragonesi (late Roberto), late Francesco Magli (Mafalda), late Pina Iacolucci (late Spartaco), late Ottavio Magli (Karen), Rosario Magli (Lina), Antonio Magli (Brenda), and late Teresa Feraco (late Francesco).
Predeceased by her parents Antonia and Ettore Medaglia and in-laws Anna and Donato Magli. She will be deeply missed by many nieces and nephews who were all so dear to her heart.
Maria was born in Aiello Calabro, Italy. Together with her husband Vito, she immigrated to Canada in 1962 to join her sister Giulia and her family. She loved her new country and settled happily in Sault Ste. Marie, determined to make a better life for her family. Maria cared deeply for her sister and brother and they had a very strong and loving relationship.
Maria was passionate about family, friends, faith, cooking, baking, and storytelling. She selflessly dedicated her entire life to her family. Maria loved caring for her grandchildren and gathering with her family to celebrate special occasions together. Not one day went by without hearing her sweet voice telling her children and grandchildren how much she loved them. This love extended to her furry granddogs Apollo and Luna, who gave her great joy over these past few years.
Maria was a friend to everyone. She had a generous spirit and was very giving. Anyone who made it into her home never left empty-handed. She had many great friends that she treasured.
Maria loved to cook and bake, and her kitchen was always filled with wonderful aromas. She made the best Italian food and spent endless hours baking her grandchildren their favourite treats. Christmas and Easter were extra special because she would cook her traditional Italian dishes.
Maria had a solid and strong faith in God. She loved going to St. Veronica’s church and was part of an Italian bible study group for many years. She lived a life of gratitude and appreciated all the little things in life. In the past few years, when her health was failing, she found peace in attending St. Veronica’s Sunday service on TV.
Maria was a gifted storyteller and loved sharing tales from her past that reflected her humble beginnings. Her stories were priceless, and there were often many tears from laughing so hard.
Maria was our angel on earth who always guided us with gentle words of wisdom. We are so grateful to God for gifting us with our beautiful angel that we had the privilege of calling mother. She was a gentle, loving soul and we will forever cherish the wonderful memories we made with her. We love you forever and always. Sarai sempre nel nostro cuore cara mamma.

Friends and family are invited to gather at the Arthur Funeral Home – Barton & Kiteley Chapel (492 Wellington St. East, 705-759-2522) on Monday, May 22, 2023 from 6 pm - 8 pm. Funeral Mass will be held at her beloved St. Veronica’s Church (559 Douglas Street) on Tuesday, May 23, 2023 at 1 pm. Rev. Ron Ambeault officiating.
