Maureen Brigette Shelleau

Maureen was the daughter of the late John and Beatrice Shelleau. She is survived by her partner Bill McLean and is the adored sister of Thom and the late Carol Jean. She was Aunt to many nieces and nephews.

Maureen built an extraordinary career shaped by her passion for art, nature, humour, entrepreneurship and helping others. An honours graduate of Fine Art, Classical Animation and 3D Animation, she was a highly respected figure in the animation industry, contributing to hundreds of animated television series and films with renowned studios including Nelvana, Disney and Don Bluth. In addition to her animation career, Maureen was a celebrated equine artist, pet portraitist, photographer, cartoonist and book illustrator.

Her teaching journey began when she was invited to join Sheridan College as an instructor in both the Classical and 3D Animation programs. She later taught Video Game Design at Sault College, as well as affiliated online courses in Kenora and Fort Frances. Most recently, Maureen applied her love of teaching to her own art academy, along with specialized workshops across Canada and the United States.

She will be lovingly remembered by her close friends Pam and Lynn and will be dearly missed by Jill and Terry, Tom, Sandy, Jens and the many other friends, students and co-workers she met throughout her life journey.

Family and friends extend their sincere thanks to Dr. Sharon Buehner and the other caregivers at Sault Area Hospital and ARCH as well as to the staff at Arthur Funeral Home - Barton & Kiteley Chapel for their compassion and guidance throughout this journey. In accordance with Maureen’s wishes cremation has taken place. She will be interred with her parents at a later date. Memorial donations (payable by cheque or online) to the ARCH or the Sault Ste.
