CHOMNIAK, Morris – The very proud children of Morris Chomniak: Brian (Veronique), Louise Moscicky (Jerry), John (Rose-Ann), Terry (Patty), Gerry (Kevin) and Stephen (Heidi) announce his passing on Monday, January 13, 2014. He was such a proud grandfather of 10, and a great grandfather of one. Amanda Young (Robert), Emily Chomniak, Stephen and Lisa Moscicky, Joelle Nadeau (Denis) and son Braydn, Danielle Nadeau (Paul), Chanelle Chomniak (Max), Allison and Matthew Chomniak and Allen Chomniak will cherish forever their grandpa who showed all of them the importance of dedication to hard work; and that love was a quality not a quantity and he gave this gift in abundance. Dad was born in Port Arthur to Anne Peristy and John Chomniak in 1933. In 1952 he moved to Toronto where he graduated from Ryerson, the only sibling to receive a university education. He accepted a position with Atomic Energy after graduation. He soon realized he wanted to pursue a teaching career so he moved his young family to Picton. He taught at Prince Edward County High School for four years. With a station wagon full of their six children, our parents moved to Sault Ste. Marie where he accepted a teaching position at Sir James Dunn C. & V.S. “Mr. C”, as he was affectionately known to all of his students at SJD, was an inspiration and mentor to all who had the privilege to have had him as their teacher. Not one to sit idle, he worked for Ontario Hydo during the summer months, and after retiring he continued teaching at Sault College. In 1980, he graduated with a Masters of Music from Algoma University. His older sister Doris Blahut (late Bill) and younger brother Oles Chomniak (Jackie) mourn his passing. He was also the brother of Jenny, the late Walter and the late Nick (Betty). We would like to thank our mother Joanne who has been at our side during this past year. Dad was very appreciative of her home cooked meals and baking, and said “no one can cook better than your mother”. To Judy Miller, (Judikins, as he called her) who was like a second daughter to him and like a sister to us, when she stepped in and checked in on him every weekend, we thank you. To Shirley St. Jacques (Russ), who took him to his numerous appointments, when he could no longer drive, he was the ultimate back seat driver, reminding when to turn left and what street to take in case you couldn’t remember how to get around town. To Rose-Ann who constantly brought him food and smiles, thank you. He was a friend you could always count on, and would never hesitate to help you out (as long as you did it his way, the right way). To all his friends who called him Moe, thank you for your friendship and dedication to him. We miss you already dad, but take peace in the fact that your suffering is over and know that we love you always and will never forget everything you taught us and did for us. Friends may call at the Arthur Funeral Home & Cremation Centre on Friday, January 17, 2014 from 6-9 pm. Funeral Mass to be celebrated from St. Jerome’s Catholic Church on Saturday, January 18, 2014 at 10 am. Rev. Eric Pannike officiating. Interment St. Andrew’s Cemetery, Thunder Bay, Ontario. Memorial contributions to the Algoma Residential Community Hospice (ARCH) would be appreciated by the family. Expressions of sympathy may be offered at www.arthurfuneralhome.com.
