Father to Dan (Annie), Pat (Darlene) and Roger (Suzie). Proud Pépéroni to four beautiful grandchildren Catherine (Guillaume), Christine (Miguel), Mitchell Dewar and Alex. Proud honorary grandfather to William and Frank Moroz and their families.
Survived by his siblings Rolande (late Antonio DiMambro), Aline (late Exélus Thauvette), Claudette (Gaston Godard), Julien (Gabrielle) and Gaston (Thérèse). Pre-deceased by Cécile (late Léonard Lord), Fernand (late Liliane), Yvon (Julie), Georgette (Guy Grégoire), Robert (late Cécile), Bertrand (Patricia), Isabelle (late Léo-Paul Gingras), Gilbert (Léola) and Denise (Serge Simonnot).
Survived by his extended family Claire Normandeau. Pre-deceased by Roland Normandeau (late Claire), Jacqueline (late Paul Caravaggie), André Normandeau, Jean-Paul Normandeau (Marion) and Martha (late Peter Allen). Uncle to many nieces and nephews that hold many fond memories.
Ron was a proud steelworker at Algoma Steel for many years until he retired and travelled to so many different places alongside his bride. They ultimately laid roots and became “snowbirds” in Florida for many years to help escape the cold winters of the north, which allowed them to enjoy golf year-round. He loved woodworking and made quite a few beautiful pieces of furniture in his lifetime. He expanded to model airplane building/flying and spent many years in the air, and some on the ground. He also found the time to proudly volunteer at Algoma Residential Community Hospice (A.R.C.H.) with his wife as the resident handyman to help give back to the community, where he also built “toaster tongs” to help with their fundraising efforts.
A special thank you to his sister-in-law and friend Léola, and to the F.J. Davey home Birch 1 unit for the attention, care and patience that was given to Ron during his time of need.
Cremation has already taken place, and as per Ron’s wishes there will be no funeral. A celebration of life for the immediate family will take place in Sault Ste. Marie, where Ron will be laid to rest alongside Hélène. Arrangements entrusted to Arthur Funeral Home - Barton & Kiteley Chapel (492 Wellington Street East; 705-759-2522). Memorial donations may be made to A.R.C.H., or to the Heart and Stroke Foundation. Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.arthurfuneralhome.com.
