It is with heavy hearts that the family announces the passing of Sylvia at the age of 68 in Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario where she was born and raised. Sylvia was predeceased by her mother Anneliese Margarethe Rausch; her father Günther Johannes Rausch. Also predeceased by her younger brother André John Rausch. Daughter-in-law of late George Nott, survived by her mother-in-law Irene Nott. She leaves to mourn her husband Mark, daughter Stephanie (Eric Jean and his children - Isabelle and Jonah Jean), son Kevin, and her grandchildren whom she cherished dearly, Ryleigh Nott and Kevin Nott Jr. Sylvia is lovingly remembered by younger sister, Helga Rausch, her children Sylvia Grodzinski (Corey Fainstat), their children Arlo and Fox Fainstat; Karl Grodzinski (Denise Alivantov); and Natasha Grodzinski. She will also be dearly missed by André’s children: Avery Rausch (Michaela Martella); and Storm Dowding (Tyren), and their son Tyren Junior (TJ). Joining the family in grief are relatives Onkel Adolf Volkel and Tante Hannelore Mitschke, cousins Jörg and Echkard Volkel, Michaela Mitschke and Rolf Mitschke and Anja Wagner in Germany, and cousins Heidi Wegner and Christel Miller in the United States. She was blessed to be a part of the Nott family since they were high school sweethearts.
Our Sylvia was a fierce protector and caregiver, always prioritizing others over herself. She did her best to shield her siblings from their parents’ difficult divorce and gave up a carefree childhood to help raise them when their single mother had to go back to school and work. In her youth she excelled at softball, swimming and downhill skiing. After marrying in 1976, she and Mark worked hard to transform a rustic cottage on Trout Lake into a beautiful home that became the joyful centre of gravity of her extended family. She enjoyed life on Trout Lake––big family dinners, bonfires, saunas, paddling or cruising the lake, snowmachining, or watching hummingbirds.
Sylvia was a bus driver most of her working years. She loved being with and seeing the children and people every day. She loved her family and friends so much and her job was one that allowed her to have the freedom to enjoy her life to the fullest.
A special shout-out to all her caring, loving and supportive people in her life. You all helped make her days so much more wonderful. We love you all so much.
A Celebration of life will be held on Thursday, November 27, 2025 from 6:00 - 9:00 pm at Grand Gardens (1324 Great Northern Road). In lieu of flowers, memorial donations (made payable by cheque or online) to Algoma Residential Community Hospice (A.R.C.H.) would be greatly appreciated by the family.
