Teresa Lauricella

January 13, 1933March 20, 2020

LAURICELLA, Teresa - It is with great sadness and sorrow to announce the passing of the lovely Teresa Lauricella (Naro) on Friday March 20, 2020. Born January 13, 1933 in San Cataldo, Sicily, daughter of Salvatore and Carmella Naro; Sister of Sarina, late Guiseppe, late Maria, late Rosa, Enrica, Arturo all of Sicily, and Rosario (Anna) of Toronto. Wife of late Giovanni and mother of Diego (Pina), (late) Maria-Michela, (late) Salvatore, Roberto (Rebecca), Eduardo, and James. Nona to Jonathan, Michael, (late) Christopher, Haylee, as well as Chelsea, Charlie & Joshua. Pippina to Silvana Dereski (LaRussa). Aunt to many nieces and nephews in Canada and back in her home country of Sicily and has left a void in the extended Rody and Rainville families.

An incredible survivor of 87 years, she had a strong work ethic and a passion for the simple things in life. She faced the challenge of coming to a new country (arriving in Wawa) in her early 20’s and raised a family with amazing grace and revered independence, later moving to Sault Ste Marie to be closer to her boys. She was a domestic “engineer” and along side her late sister-in-law, Vincenza, they had prepared many special occasion suppers that were legendary in taste, quality and quantity. She tended to an annual garden that could feed a small village and was fiercely proud of both the flowers she cultivated and the effective home crafted tools that helped her gardens flourish – even once earning a beautification award from the city. The cold winters in Wawa allowed her to spend an abundance of time on another favourite hobby as a seamstress. She beamed with pride every time she told the story of how that skill came to be and the certificate earned in Italy at a young age still hangs on the wall of her sewing room!

Her willingness to live life happily was obvious in how she infectiously smiled when she danced, sang and socialized with those she knew all her life and those she met in the later years.

A private funeral service will be held at the Arthur Funeral Home - Barton & Kiteley Chapel (492 Wellington St. E 705-759-2522). Entombment Holy Sepulchre Cemetery. Friends are invited to view the service online, go to www.funeraweb.tv and select Teresa's name. Donations (payable by cheque) to Alzheimer Society, Sault Area Hospital Foundation or F.J. Davey Home Foundation are greatly appreciated. The family would like to thank those special and gifted care givers at the F.J. Davey Home and the nurses and personal support workers at the Sault Area Hospital who worked tirelessly to keep her comfortable. Please visit Arthur Funeral Home website obituaries to leave memories and condolences as a keepsake for the family.

We were saddened to learn of your Mothers passing. She will be missed in the neighbourhood. We often remember her telling us her secret to growing such beautiful roses. We saw how she tended to her gardens with great pride
