

Beria Hayes Dawson, 100, of Savannah, Ga left her earthly home on Saturday, Feb. 4, 2012 to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, and to be reunited with her beloved husband of 50 years, David Porter Dawson, and all of her family and friends who have gone on before. She passed peacefully in her home, surrounded by her loving family, who will miss her dearly.
She was born in Whiteville, North Carolina, and moved to Savannah, Georgia when she was three years old.
She joined Calvary Baptist Temple in 1924, and was there for the Inaugural Dedication of all three of that Churches Sanctuaries. She had been a member for 88 years, and was in Rev. John Wilder’s “Busy Bee’s” Group, she sang in the Sanctuary Choir and played the piano when she was needed. She was a teacher in the Cradle Roll Department for 50 years. She was an Emeritus member of Palestine Chapter # 249, Order of the Eastern Star, and she had also played the piano for her late husband’s quartet.
She is survived by two daughters, Barbara E. Dawson, and Julia “Judi” Griffin (Charles “Chuck”) all of Savannah, Ga; 2 sons, David Porter Dawson, Jr., (Carolyn), and James Joseph Dawson (Gayle), and an “adopted son”, John A. Tanner (B.J.) all of Savannah, Ga; a half sister, Lucille McGrady, 6 grandchildren, and 9 great grandchildren.
Visitation: 5 – 8 p.m. Tuesday at the Fairhaven Funeral Home – Hubert C. Baker Chapel.
Funeral Services: 11 a.m. Wednesday at Calvary Baptist Temple, with Rev. Derward Poole, officiating.
Interment: Masonic Section of Forest Lawn Memory Gardens.
Mrs. Dawson will be taken to Calvary Baptist Temple at 9 a.m. Wednesday to lie in state.
