Savannah-Mrs. Beverly Pendexter, devoted wife and mother, passed away peacefully Friday, March 21, surrounded by her family. She will be remembered fondly for her love of precision, punctuality, honesty and loyalty. Those who loved her appreciated her passion for Scrabble, Bocci and NCIS. The following poem, written by her husband Hugh, describes his deep love for her. We trust that she is with him now.
Retrospect
The years stretch back, a longer path than waits
For exploration. Lightly trafficked--bleak
At times--this ancient, narrow track we trudged
Together led us past enticing byways.
Heart clasped, we strained our ankles on rock-falls,
Joyed through orchard shade, and labored blind
Through stifling fog where, wrenched by pain and fear,
We trusted one step -- each supporting each--
Again one step, until at last we climbed
To vision here upon this modest rise,
Whose gracious view restores our wasted courage.
No lasting rest: this lovely hill but shows
The new ascent, unseen when first we walked.
We pause in thanks to catch our puffing breath,
Then joined in love, prepare for new ascent.
A service to celebrate her life will be held on Monday June 30 at 10:00 a.m. at First Church of Christ, Scientist; 211 East Victory Drive in Savannah.
