
Dorothy was born and raised in Drumright, OK and graduated from High School. She completed two years of business school and one year at Central State College in Edmond, OK. During World War II, she worked in Washington, DC for the U. S. Government in the Housing and Placement of Dependents. She moved to Savannah over sixty years ago from Washington. From 1947 to 1983 she was a teller and mortgage loan officer with First Federal Saving and Loan and Great Southern Federal and at her retirement she had advanced to branch manager and vice-president. Dorothy was the first female vice-president with Great Southern Federal. She was a member of the Christian Faith. She was very proud of her family and loved spending time with them every chance she got.
She is survived by her husband of 15 years, Stuart G. Abel, JR, of Savannah; two sons, Christy Tapley of Garland, TX and Terry Tapley(Sherry) of Plano, TX; two step-sons, Jay Abel, (Marguerite) of FL, Daniel Abel of Savannah; step-daughter, Holly Ray (Carlton) of Savannah; a brother, Stephen Krotzer (Willa); a sister, Nancy McIntire; 14 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews.
Visitation: 5 – 7p.m. Tuesday, May 28, 2013 at Fairhaven Funeral Home, Hubert C. Baker Chapel.
Funeral Service: 10:00a.m. Wednesday in the Funeral Home Chapel with Rev Michael Locklear officiating with burial to follow at Hillcrest West Cemetery on Dean Forest Rd.
Memorial Contribution in lieu of flowers may be made to First Freewill Baptist Church, Youth Fund.
