

MSgt, USAF, Retired, Drennon Veneries Cowart, 79, of Richmond Hill, Ga and formerly of Savannah, Ga., passed away at home after a long illness on Tuesday, May 8, 2012, surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Lyons, Georgia; he was the son of the late Dewey VanDorn Cowart and Mary Pearl Barfield Cowart. Drennon served proudly as a Flight Engineer in the US Air Force, retiring after 20 years. He was employed by General Electric following his Military Career.
Drennon was a Charter Member of the Skidaway Island Baptist Church before moving to Richmond Hill and becoming a member of the Richmond Hill Baptist Church. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, the love of his life, Carolyn Mangum Cowart, of Richmond Hill, Ga. Their marriage lasted over 60 happy years. Survivors also include his son, Donald Vance Cowart, his daughter and son in law, Terrie and Herb Houghton, his Grandsons, Kacey, Spencer, and Evan Houghton of Richmond Hill, his Granddaughters, Lyndsey and Lydia Cowart of Savannah, his Great Granddaughter Hannah Jade Scicli of Savannah, and his sister Lavada Hiers of Hampton, S.C. Visitation: 6-8 p.m. Thursday at Fairhaven Funeral Home – Hubert C. Baker Chapel, 7415 Hodgson Memorial Drive, Savannah, GA 31406. Funeral Services: 11 a.m. Friday at Skidaway Island Baptist Church, with Dr. James Staubes, officiating. Mr. Cowart will be taken to the church at 9:30 a.m. Friday to lie in state.
