

Earl R. Lawhorne - SAVANNAH - Earl R. Lawhorne, 88, of Savannah, died Sunday, August 30, 2015 surrounded by his family at Hospice House of Savannah. Born February 5, 1927, in Baltimore, MD, he was a son of the late Jesse D. Lawhorne and Virginia Camper Lawhorne. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother Larry and sister Betty Lawhorne. He graduated from Virginia Military Institute in 1949 with a commission as a Second Lieutenant. He served with the US Army in Germany during the Korean War, and he resigned as a Captain. He was employed as a chemist with American Cyamid Company (and successive corporate owners), retiring after 36 years. He was a long time member of First Baptist Church of Lynchburg, Virginia, First Baptist Church of Savannah, and more recently, Skidaway Island United Methodist Church. He served as a teacher, Deacon, and on various committees in his churches. He was a Boy Scout Leader, and he enjoyed fishing and bridge. He is survived by his wife of sixty-six years, Jeanne Hoyt Lawhorne of Savannah, GA; two sons, Stephen Lawhorne and wife, Christine, of Fawn Grove, PA; Gregory Lawhorne and wife, Dianne, of savannah, GA; two daughters, Diane Lawhorne, of Ocala, FL; and Suzanne Yaskow, of Savannah, GA; 3 grandchildren, Jason Lawhorne and wife, Caroline, of Severna Park, MD; Eric McNeely, of Savannah, GA; Elizabeth Lawhorne, of Smyrna, GA; and 3 great-grandchildren. Visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, September 1, 2015 with a memorial service following at 11:00 a.m., at Skidaway Island United Methodist Church, 54 Diamond Causeway, Savannah, Georgia 31411. The family has requested that in lieu of flowers a donation be made to the Parkinson Disease Foundation at 1359 Broadway, Suite 1509, New York, NY 10018 or to Hospice House of Savannah at Hospice Savannah Foundation, P.O. Box 13190, Savannah GA 31416.
