Eva Bell Ambrose died peacefully Thursday morning, June 4, 2015 at Summer Breeze on Wilmington Island, Georgia. She was born in Screven County on February 7, 1920. Eva came to live with Steven and Florence Kutchey in 1936, when she was sixteen years old. She originally acted as caretaker for the couple’s two children, Robert and Stephen, but quickly became part of the family. She took excellent care of the boys and eventually cared for both Steven and Florence Kutchey until their deaths.
Eva began working for Kutchey Auto Supply in 1940, becoming manager of the Skidaway branch where she remained until it closed in 2006. She was an extremely hard worker, well known and loved through the parts community. Eva was a long time proud and active member of the American Business Women’s Association (ABWA), where she won several “Woman of the Year” awards.
In her later years, Eva took great joy in caring for the Kutchey children and grandchildren. She loved living in Thunderbolt and especially enjoyed walking along the riverfront and visiting with neighbors.
Eva was preceded in death by her parents Ida Mae Wilder and A.D. Ambrose, her brothers and sisters, O.L., Jimmy, Woodrow, Pete, Bessy, Ella Mae, Jackie, and Audrey. Eva is survived by her brother Bobby Ambrose, several nieces and nephews, and by Robert and all the other grateful members of the Kutchey Family.
A Graveside Service will be held at 2:30pm on Sunday, June 7 at Bonaventure Cemetery with Rev. Guy Boyd officiating.
