

He was born in Rome, Ga., and was retired from Union Camp Paper Corporation having served as a Master Machinist and Foreman of the Boiler Room.
He was a veteran of WW II, having served in the U. S. Navy during WW II. He was a member of the former Morningside Baptist Church, South Gardens Baptist Church, and Community Baptist Church.
He was a member of the Sons of the Confederacy, North-South Skirmish Association, Savannah Wood Worker’s Club, and the American Legion.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Hazel Bland Cowart, and a brother, Gordon Milton Cowart.
He is survived by his wife, Tommie Lee Spikes Cowart, of Savannah, Ga; 2 sons, William Russell “Rusty” Cowart of Brentwood, Tennessee, and Dr. Charles Francis Cowart, MD, of Douglas, Georgia; and a daughter, Ann Cowart Bene’ of Clayton, North Carolina; 1 brother, Carl Cowart, of Cartersville, Ga, 7 grandchildren, and 6 great grandchildren.
Visitation: 6-8 p.m. Tuesday at Fairhaven Funeral Home – Hubert C. Baker Chapel.
Funeral Services: 11 a.m. Wednesday in the Hubert C. Baker Chapel, with Rev. Bill Fowler, officiating.
Interment: Forest Lawn Memory Gardens.
