Mrs. Hazel Elizabeth "Betty" Helmey Cox

Betty Hazel Elizabeth Helmey Cox-Isle of Hope. Mrs. Cox, 86, died October 21, 2012 at Hospice Savannah. Mrs. Cox was born in Savannah, GA on October 13, 1926, the daughter of Langdon and Alice Helmey. She lived at Isle of Hope for 56 years. She was of the Baptist faith. She was a member of the Wymberly Garden Club for over 40 years. She enjoyed working with her flowers and keeping her yard. She enjoyed fishing and crabbing with her family. Her greatest joy was a good game of Spinner with family or friends. She was a devoted and loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was preceded in death by her husband of 67 years, Danny Cox, son Daniel M. Cox, Sr., son Gerald E. Cox, Sr. and wife Rebecca. She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Mark S. and Bonnie F. Cox of Midway, GA, daughter-in-law Lizzie Cox Rodriguez and husband Ben of Ellabell, GA; four grandchildren, Stephanie Cox-Faust and husband Ken of McKinney, TX, Amy L. Barnes and husband Drew of Ellabell, GA, Gerald E. Cox, Jr. and wife Lori of Mobridge, SD, and Daniel M. Cox, Jr. and wife Jennifer of Savannah, GA, seven great-grandchildren, Gehrig and Makena Faust of McKinney, TX, Dylan and Hunter Barnes of Ellabell, GA, Lexie, Sarah and Rebecca Cox of Mobridge, SD and sister, Polly Warhurst of Port Wentworth, GA. She is also survived by her best friend of over 60 years, Frances Joiner of Isle of Hope. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, October 23, 2012 from 6:00 until 8:00 pm at Fairhaven Funeral Home, Hubert C. Baker Chapel. Graveside service will be held on Wednesday, October 24, 2012 at 1:00 pm at Forest Lawn Memory Gardens with Pastor Scott Speer of First Baptist Church of Richmond Hill and Ben Rodriguez officiating. Pallbearers will be Daniel Michael Cox, Jr., Drew Barnes, Christopher Stracuzza, Bruce Greene, Royce Joiner and David Warhurst. Honorary Pallbearers will be her great-grandsons, Dylan Barnes, Hunter Barnes and Gehrig Faust and grandsons Gene Cox and Ken Faust. Donations may be sent to American Cancer Society or Hospice of Savannah.
