

SAVANNAH- James W. Anderson, Jr., 95, of Savannah and husband of Mary Joy Burgess Anderson, died Wednesday afternoon, July 22, at Hospice Savannah.
He was born on December 25, 1919, a son of the late James W. Anderson, Sr. and the late Minnie Irene Nevills Anderson. Mr. Anderson was a true Christian gentleman who had a kind and gentle spirit. He served in the U. S. Navy during World War II in the Pacific. He was also a member of Riverside Baptist Church. In the late 1940’s early ‘50’s, he was an amateur motorcycle racer and a member of Chatham Motor Cycle Club sponsored by Pop Cleary’s Harley Davidson franchise. Mr. Anderson was a retired boiler maker of Local 26 Savannah Georgia.
Mr. Anderson is survived by his wife of 66 years, Mary Joy Burgess Anderson; daughter Tina Groover; four sons, The Reverend Jimmy Anderson and his wife Judy, Marshall Anderson and his wife Tricia, Gary Anderson and his wife Teresa and Chris Anderson and his wife Lin. He was known as “Poppi” to eleven grandchildren, Kathy, Jay Jay, Kenny, Brooke, Brittany, Lyndsay, Noel, Amanda, Shea, Tripp and Laura Grace; a host of great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.
A Visitation will be held Saturday, July 25, 2015 from 12 until 1 o’clock at Fairhaven Funeral Home – Hubert C. Baker Chapel, 7415 Hodgson Memorial Drive, Savannah. A funeral will be held at 1 o’clock at the funeral home. Interment will take place at Lower Lotts Creek Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery, Register, Georgia at 4:00 o'clock.
