
John Vaughn - SAVANNAH – John Vaughn, M.D., 90, died peacefully on Sunday, February 19, 2012 after a long illness. Born in Glasgow, Scotland, Dr. Vaughn held medical degrees from the University of Glasgow, and served as a Royal Army Medical Corp physician in India and Southeast Asia during WWII. He emigrated to the U.S. and worked at Baylor University and Charlotte Memorial Hospital before coming to Candler General Hospital in Savannah. He retired from Candler in 1976. An accomplished yachtsman, amateur thespian, Scottish Country dancer, public radio DJ and member of St. Andrew’s Society, he traveled worldwide after retirement, establishing the Pathology Department at St. George’s University and teaching at medical schools in South Africa and Thailand. He will be greatly missed by Margaret Vaughn, his wife of 61 years; two sons, Duncan Vaughn of Savannah and Andrew Vaughn of Rochester, Minnesota; and his grandchildren. All services are private.
