

Jose Sacramento Sarinana-Bueno, 99, of Savannah, died Saturday, November 26, 2011 at his residence, under the care of Hospice Savannah, surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Guanacevi, Durango Mexico. In 1957 he moved to the United States and in 1994 moved to Savannah from El Paso, Texas. He was preceded in death by his wife, Asuncion T. Sarinana, and was a retired welder and pipefitter with Proler Steel International. He was a Christian. He played Minor League Baseball in Chihuahua, Mexico for Santa Barbara Section 11 and 50 and for Mexico Central Regional team as a short stop. His nick name was “Sacramento el Negro Sarinana”. He was named First regional batting champion in the 1930’s and again 1940’s. In 1940 he played for the Chihuahua Southern Regional team of All Stars and the team was named State Champions. He then went on to play from 1985 to 1990 with the Texas El Paso “All Pro’s,” where he shared the baseball field with his younger brother David Sarinana and his oldest son Oscar Sarinana. In 1993 he was honored at the baseball stadium in Santa Barbara, where he played and left his heart and soul, when they installed an honorary monument in his name. He is survived by two sons, Manuel Sarinana of Savannah, GA, and Oscar Sarinana of Virginia; a daughter, Margarita Sarinana of Savannah, Ga; a brother, Samuel Sarinana, and 2 sisters, Raquel and Rebecca, 8 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren, 4 great great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Visitation: 6-8 p.m., Wednesday at Fairhaven Funeral Home, Hubert C. Baker Chapel. Funeral Services: 12:00 P.M. (Noon), Thursday in the Hubert C. Baker Chapel, with Rev. Sam Watkins officiating. Entombment: Hillcrest West Mausoleum.
