

SAVANNAH – Lillian Ubele Johnson, 89, passed away Monday evening, July 6, at home surrounded by her family. She is survived by her daughter, Marsha J. Kopper (Robbie) and her son, James Jay Johnson, Jr. (Kelly). She was known to all as Nanny, but, especially to her four grandchildren, Dustin Shiell (Ashley), Brandon Shiell (Kendall), Chelsea Johnson, Breanna Kopper and to her pride and joy, her five great grandchildren, Kylie, Cody, Bryson, Kelsey and Baylor and several nieces and nephews.
A Savannah native, Lillian served as a volunteer at Memorial Hospital for over thirty years and logged over ten thousand hours. She enjoyed serving as cart volunteer with her husband and in most recent years her smiling face could be seen at the information desk, “telling people where to go.” She was a long time member of St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church. She was a member of the Alee Patrol Auxiliary and Tybee Lite Shrine Auxiliary. Besides family and her shrine activities, she enjoyed league bowling for many years and working with her flowers in the yard. She loved spending time at Spankys’s Southside and everyone she knew, she considered family.
She is preceded in death by her husband James (Jimmy) J. Johnson, Sr., her mother, Marian Ubele Eady, her sister, Colleen U. Bacon, and her brothers, Christian A. Ubele and Edward H. Ubele.
The family will receive friends from 12 until 1 o’clock , Thursday, July 9 at Fairhaven Funeral Home – Hubert C. Baker Chapel, Hodgson Memorial Drive, Savannah, with her celebration of life to follow at 1 o’clock in the funeral home chapel. Interment will follow at Forest Lawn Memory Gardens.
