
Loy W. Johnson, “PaPa J”, 81, of Savannah, passed away peacefully on Sunday, May 12, 2013 at his residence. He was preceded in death by his loving wife Ernestine Ward Johnson “MaMa J”, two brothers and one sister.
Loy was born and raised in Screven County and attended local schools there. He has spent all of his adult life here in Savannah. He was a veteran of the US Army and served his country during the Korean Conflict. Following his discharge from the Army, he returned to Savannah and went to work at Union Camp Paper Co. He was a foreman at the time of his retirement with over 30 years of service. He was a member of Southside Church of God but for the last several years he attended Southside Assembly of God. Loy was active in the seniors group at Southside Assembly of God.
He is survived by a son, Jim Loy Johnson, of Savannah; one brother, Melvin Willie Johnson; four sisters, Emma Gene Stanley, Jeanette Duncan, Patricia Ann Johnson, Linda Burke; Rev. Lelon Jeffers, whom he thought of as a son; Teal Jeffers and Christine Shuman whom he thought of as his daughters; several nieces and nephews.
Visitation: 5:00p.m. – 7:00p.m. Wednesday, May 15, 2013 at Fairhaven Funeral Home, Hubert C. Baker Chapel.
Funeral Service: 11:00a.m. Thursday, May 16, 2013 at Southside Assembly of God with Rev. Lelon Jeffers and Rev. Jack Moon officiating.
Burial will follow at Forest Lawn Memory Garden.
