Mrs Mary Lorraine Shearouse Robinson

Mary was born in Savannah, Ga., Nov. 16, 1928, and was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Lee Robinson, Jr., her parents, Ossie Ellis and Virgie Milligan Shearouse, her daughter, Barbara Lorraine Robinson Reiser, and grandchildren, John Robert Reiser and Joey Matarazzo.

Mary was involved with music in the church since she was 10 years old. First at Calvary Baptist Temple, in the Primary Department, and then after her marriage, at White Bluff Presbyterian Church where she served as Organist for over 65 years, and continued playing until 2010. White Bluff Presbyterian Church named her “Organist Emeritus” in Celebration of her many years of service.

Whenever the church door was open, Mary was there; be it Sunday Services, Wednesday Night Functions, Kindergarten, Weddings, Funerals, Christmas Programs, Ordinations, Dedications and Much More.

In her spare time, she was involved with the Travis Field Dance Band, the USO, the Henry Applewhite Dance Band, and Doris Martin and Helen Marie Kenney’s Dance Schools. During her teen years, she performed with the Les Brown Orchestra. While on tour, their Piano Player was taken ill, and Mary served as their piano player.

Mary was a member of the Savannah Musicians Local Union for over 50 years. In 1980, she was presented an Honorary Life Membership into the “Women of the Presbyterian Church”.

She is survived by a son, Robert Lee Robinson, III, 2 daughters, Angela Francis Robinson Grovenstein, and Phebe Lynne Robinson Reiser, 2 sisters, Mrs. Camille Shearouse Dixon (Humbert), and Mrs. Shirley Ann Shearouse Sandt; 9 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and extended family.

Visitation: 2 – 5 p.m. Sunday at the Fairhaven Funeral Home – Hubert C. Baker Chapel, 7415 Hodgson Memorial Drive, Savannah, Ga 31406.

Funeral Services: 11 a.m. Monday at White Bluff Presbyterian Church, with Rev. Eric Beene, officiating. Mrs. Robinson will be taken to the church at 9:30 a.m. Monday to lie in state.

Interment: Greenwich Cemetery.
