

She was born on January 12, 1922 in Savannah, Georgia, the middle girl of three girls and one boy born to the late William Iverson and Ruby (Burkhalter) Barbaree. Her only brother was killed in a truck accident when he was only ten years old and this left a lasting impression on the family. Miriam left school in the 10th grade to go to work to help support her family after her father broke his back.
While the family was living in Miami, Florida, she met Pierce R.Nesbitt on a blind date. They were married on June 15, 1940 and remained married for forty years.
Miriam was a lifetime member of the Central Church of the Nazarene and a member of the choir.
The births of her children, raising a successful family, leading a Christian life and making favorite foods for holidays and birthdays were her proudest accomplishments. She instilled values in her family to form character and helped them to understand the value of family. She loved to crochet intricate items to give to family and friends. Her great sense of humor will be missed and all who knew her were known to remark how she was a “sweet, precious woman.”
She was predeceased by her parents, her husbands, Pierce R. Nesbitt and Raymond Brinson.
Survivors include her daughter, Linda Nesbitt Hanson of Lakeville, MN; three sons, Roy Iverson Nesbitt, Sr. of Savannah, Raymond Charles Nesbitt of Thunderbolt, and Glenn Pierce Nesbitt of Tybee Island; eight grandchildren, seventeen great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be held from 11 until 1 o’clock, Saturday, September 5, at Fairhaven Funeral Home – Hubert C. Baker Chapel, Savannah. A funeral Service will be held at 1 o’clock following visitation in the funeral home chapel. Interment will follow at Hillcrest Abbey – East, Wheaton Street.
