
He was born on December 7, 1930, in Chicago, IL, the son of the George P. Simonaitis and the late Sofija S. Woijkiewicz.
Richard attended Loyola University and was a graduate of the University of Illinois and earned his Master’s Degree and his PhD from Ohio State University. He served his country in the United States Army. Richard worked for many years as a research chemist for Aerojet-General Corp, Gulf Oil, General Electric, and spent many years in Savannah at the Department of Agriculture as their Lead Scientist.
Over the years, Richard was involved in various activities in Savannah such as the Girl Scouts, Night in Old Savannah Ethnic festival, Savannah Theatre Company, ushering at the Nativity of our Lord and the Savannah young Peoples Theatre.
He is survived by his wife, Vera S. Simonaitis; daughters, Rachel and her husband Mike, Laura; son, Steven Simonaitis and his wife Amy; 4 grandchildren.
