

-SAVANNAH – Robert Lynch (87) died on Thursday September 25th following a long battle with cancer. He left as he lived; with grave, dignity and surrounded by his family. Born November 7th 1924 he was the last surviving child of the late John and Mary lynch of Savannah and Effingham County. In addition to the ten siblings he was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Linda, and his wife of 57 years, Norma Dickey Lynch.
He is survived by a wife, Imogene Dampier Lynch, and his children; Robert W. Lynch (Claudis) of Florence S.C., Cynthia Pringle (John) of Denver Pa., Richard Lynch (Mary) of Guyton Ga., eight grandchildren, one great-grandson, two sister in laws and numerous nieces and nephews. He is also survived by three step children
Gordon Dampier (Elaine) of Atlanta, Julie Culhane (Rich) of Savannah, Wanda Dampier Reese of Savannah and four grandchildren of the Dampier family. Following graduation from Savannah High School, he served as a radioman with the U.S. Navy in WWII Though most of his combat experience was land based with the Army and Marines in the South Pacific. A strong faith in Christ as his savior sustained him during the war as well as through out his adult life. His recent battle with cancer serves as an example of how a Christian copes with life’s adversities. A charter member of Robert McIntyre Methodist Church he later attended and served as an elder at Washington Avenue Christian Church, Most recently he and Imogene were attending Savannah Christian Church. Following his retirement from Union Camp with 42 years service, he and Norma traveled extensively in the United States. He appreciated the outdoors and was often found hunting, fishing or just enjoying the serenity of God’s outdoor world. Visitation: 6-8 p.m. at Fairhaven Hubert C. Baker Chapel. Funeral Service: 11:30 a.m. at Savannah Christian Church East off Whitfield Ave. Interment: Hillcrest Abbey Memorial park. Serving as pall bearers are Ivy Davis, Robert A. Lynch II,
Derek Lynch, Daniel lynch, David Dickey, and Richard Culhane. The family wishes to acknowledge the wonderful medical professionals who assisted him during this last struggle; especially Hospice of Savannah and those who served on the oncology floors at St. Josephs and Candler hospitals.
