Imagine landing in a foreign country. You can’t understand the language, new environment, different ways, many strangers, a much different culture, very little money, and suitcases full of carefully selected personal belongings. Antonietta, was one of two children of Berardino and Concetta, along with her sister Maria, they set out to find a new place in Canada, on February 21st 1953, landing at the Port of Halifax on the MN Saturnia. Berardino and Concetta settled first in Toronto then Scarborough. Maria met and married Nicola Primiano, moved together to the U.S. and grew a happy and successful family, of four (three boys and one girl) eventually landing in Georgia. Antonietta, met Michele Pede and with their own hopes and dreams, married in 1954, then settled in Scarborough. They bought a home in the Wexford area, where they too raised a family of four children. (one girl and three boys). And so the story begins. Rosanna came first, then Donald, then Benny and last but most, Frank. Dad worked outside the home and Mom worked inside the home. Mom spent most of her time with the children, which was the tough work. Between making sure we were, fed (and, were we fed!), clothed, finished our homework, teaching us to respect one another and others, we grew up, without getting in too much trouble. Mom supported us throughout our lives in every way and more. Did we mention her cooking? Amazing cook and baker who at a moment’s notice could prepare any kind of meal. Homemade preserves, pasta sauce galore, all for her family. We meant everything to her. Right up to the end, at which time, it was the families turn to look after Antonietta. There are no words to thank Frank for his gentle care, for the last remaining years of mom’s life. Antonietta is resting at Paul O’Connor/Dignity Funeral Home, 1939 Lawrence Avenue East. Private Mass 11:00am Friday April 16, 2021 @ Precious Blood Church by invitation only. Entombment to be announced at a later date. The ceremony will be live streamed so you can view the private mass.
