At the age of 82, our beloved mother passed away in Scarborough, entrusted into the loving embrace of God. In faith, we hold close the promise that life is not ended, but changed, and that she now rests in eternal peace.
She was (and still is) the cherished mother of Mary Soberano and Michael Shaw, and the devoted wife of the late Peter Shaw. Her life was a testament to enduring love, remarkable strength, and unwavering faith.
A devout and practising Catholic, she found deep joy and purpose in her relationship with God. Prayer was her anchor, and the Church was her second home. Beyond attending Mass, she lived her faith in action, especially through founding and leading a bereavement group at her parish, where she walked alongside others in their grief with compassion, wisdom, and understanding. She built lasting friendships within her community and touched countless lives both within and beyond it.
She had a gift for making people laugh, often with a well-timed joke or a lighthearted comment, yet she was equally capable of great seriousness and resolve. When life presented challenges, she met them head-on with fearlessness, resilience, and determination, always finding a way forward. She carried herself with humility, strength, and grace.
In her professional life, she served as a project manager for the Ontario government, where she was known for her ability to lead with clarity, quickly navigate through office politics, bring people together, and draw out the very best in those around her. She had a natural talent for organization and leadership, paired with a genuine care for people.
At home, she was remarkably independent and steadfast, especially after the sudden and unexpected passing of our father in 2010. She managed every detail of daily life with diligence. She worked tirelessly, lived frugally, and saved faithfully, always mindful of the future. Yet she was also deeply generous. She gave her energy, love, advice, and prayers without hesitation. Her selflessness was evident in everything she did.
She had a particular talent for finding the best grocery deals, carefully comparing prices and quality with patience and skill, which was an expression of her practicality and care for her family. She found joy in these simple acts of providing and caring.
Above all, she led by example. Through her words and actions, she taught us the meaning of faith, love, perseverance, and integrity. Because of her, we carry forward the tools needed to face life’s challenges with courage and hope.
Her life was one of service, humility, and deep devotion. She built a legacy not only in our family, but in the many lives she uplifted through her kindness, strength, and faith.
We give thanks for her life, her love, and her example, trusting that she now rejoices in the presence of the Lord, where every tear is wiped away and peace knows no end.
