MCDERMOTT, Cecilia (nee Kerrigan) – Suddenly, but peacefully Cecilia passed away after a brief illness at St. Michael’s hospital on the morning of Tuesday, October 18 at the age of 79. Born in Glasgow, Scotland, Cecilia emigrated to Canada in 1966. She is predeceased by her parents, John and Mary, her brothers John and Larry and her sister Rose. Loving wife of 53 years to Gerry, who will miss her terribly. Beloved mother to Paul (Sara), Andrew (Melissa), Siobhain (Derek) and Kathleen (William). Cherished and adored Grandma to Liam, Connor, Shannon, Nolan, Alisa, Eliana, Brayden, Ewan and Maeve. Cecilia will be remembered fondly by the McDermott clan, her many nieces and nephews and her family across the pond. In particular, her lifelong friend Maria Brogan. Adopted mother to the many whom she welcomed into her home at 492 Cosburn. Cecilia was a devout Catholic and woman of faith, a devotion she maintained through to the last morning of her life. May she rest in peace in the Lord’s grace and be reunited with family and friends who have gone before her. The family would like to thank her medical team at St. Michael’s Hospital Emergency Department and General Internal Medicine Unit. In lieu of flowers memorial donations can be made to either the Hospital for Sick Children or St Michael’s Hospital. Mourners will be received at Paul O’Connor Funeral Home, 1939 Lawrence Avenue East, Scarborough, ON M1R 2Y8 on Sunday October 23, from 4pm to 8pm. Funeral Mass at Holy Cross Catholic Church, 291 Cosburn Ave., East York, ON M4J 2M4 on Monday October 24, at 11am. Celebration of Life to follow at The Leaside Pub, 190 Laird Dr, East York, ON M4G 3W2
