Dear Gayle,  I was very saddened to learn of the passing of David and am very sorry for your loss. As I walked past “Gayle Force” docked in slip P3 on the way to my own slip today, I was reminded of the kind, generous and caring person David was. We were connected through the shared passion and enjoyment of sailing and it was always a pleasure to stop and chat. His warm smile and friendly conversation will be greatly missed.

Gayle, so sorry to hear of David’s passing and your loss. My heart is sad. He was a wonderful man and one I much enjoyed sharing a passion for sailing and the special  joy of being members of HYC.

Oh my, this is so sad. Our deepest condolences go out to the siblings - Sue, Dianne and Bruce, and to his beloved partner, Gayle. As well to Jamie and Lindsay, Holly, Henry & Aggie. 

Thinking about David, lemon squares come to mind. Ohhhh.... David made the BEST lemon squares. And gratefully, he never skimped on the icing sugar topping.  David's baking skills, along with his quiet intelligence, is forever etched in our memories.

Jake, Ryan and myself are holding space for the family. May his memory be a blessing.

Well Dave, I was shocked to hear of your passing when Jamie called a few days ago.  As you know, we have been friends for 60 years.  We grew up only a block and a half apart, but on opposite sides of Willowdale Avenue.  Our paths did not cross until we attended Bayview Junior High School in Bayview Village for grades 7 and 8.  It was a considerable hike for us to get there.  When it rained, my mother would drive us to school and/or pick us up afterwards in her mighty 1954 Austin.

November 22, 1967 must have been a rainy day because mom was there to pick us up after school.  When we got into the car the radio was on and we heard about the assassination of John F. Kennedy just a few hours before.  The world sure seemed to be a dangerous place that day, and it feels every bit  as dangerous now.

Thanks for your loyal friendship over the years.  Visits with the kids when they were small, trips to the zoo, and numerous cross-country ski adventures when we used to have real winters.  Do you remember the time when MB and I drove down to visit you in Ottawa to ski at Gatineau Park and the voltage regulator quit on our VW bug?  The battery would get so hot it would boil, and all of our clothing, luggage, and probably us smelled like battery acid for the entire weekend.  And more recently, those shopping trips to Frankenmuth in November to stuff ourselves with fried chicken.  And lots of family weddings and funerals back and forth as we wound our way through life.

I could never understand why you liked sailing so much, but you sure did.  Far too barfy a pastime for me.  Remember trailering your little sailboat up here to take our kids out on Colpoys Bay?  They loved it, and later on the boys went together  to buy a tiny, well-used boat for themselves.  Last Neil bought a 16 ft. sailboat.  So you have passed on the bug.  It is all your fault.  Rest easy my friend.  I fully expect to see you again at some point.

We first met David in 1971 at University of Waterloo. From that point, our friendship and companionship grew through weddings, dinners , parties, child-raising, football games, dance lessons, trips and much more. He has left us with a lifetime of fond warm memories, which we will cherish. Our deepest sympathies to David’s family and friends. We will miss him. Brenda and Graham Patterson.

We knew him many years ago and he was always the type to have a smile or kind word.
