Dorothy Mabel Bodegraven (Patoir) wife of the late Peter Bodegraven (2001) and mother of Chris (Kathy) and the late Andrew (1989) passed away peacefully in her home. Born in the former British Guyana to William Patoir and Lillian (Taylor). Predeceased by brother Basil of Toronto, sister Hazel Figueira (Cyril) of Toronto, brother Brian of Guyana and sister Heather Peck of England. Survived by her sisters Beverly Pasea of England, Gillian Gonzales of Barbados and brother Clifford of Guyana. Also survived by many nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Canadian Cancer Society would be appreciated. Dorothy moved to Canada in 1954. She worked in Leamington and Windsor for a year beginning a long career as a Medical Lab Technologist. She then moved to Jamaica for a short time, and on her return to Canada, spent many years working at Scarborough General Hospital and the Donwood Institute. She finished her career working for the Provincial Courts and retired from there at 62. Dorothy married Peter in 1957 and a year later Chris was born followed by Andrew in 1963. Dorothy and Peter spent many a Saturday night in friends homes dining and dancing till the early hours. They both enjoyed travelling with highlights being Israel, Bali and Cuba. After retirement they both enjoyed bowling, bridge and continued to travel. Dorothy continued to play bridge after moving to London in 2001 when Peter passed. She was very independent and enjoyed socializing; she joined the Newcomers Club and the Redhats along with two bridge groups in London. Her enthusiasm for historical books was always a favourite for Christmas presents. She had a boundless historical interest, especially early 20th century Russian history. Music, old and contemporary, was always a common interest with her sons. She spent her last evenings enjoying favourite songs with Chris.
A visitation for Dorothy will be held Thursday, August 18, 2022 from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM at Paul O’Connor Funeral Home, 1939 Lawrence Ave. E, Scarborough, ON M1R2Y8. A chapel service will occur Thursday, August 18, 2022 from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM, 1939 Lawrence Ave. E, Scarborough, ON M1R2Y8. An interment will occur Thursday, August 18, 2022 from 1:30 PM to 2:00 PM at Pine Hills Cemetery, 625 Birchmount Road, Scarborough, ON M1K 1R1.
