Ethel Patricia Luciano, aged 82, died peacefully on May 12, 2021 at her home in Toronto, after a brief but courageous battle with cancer. Ethel was born August 21, 1938, in Long River, Prince Edward Island to the late Linus Fitzsimmons and Catherine Fitzsimmons (Gillis). Ethel was the youngest of 9. She was raised by a widowed mother (at the age of 36), on the farm working alongside her mother and siblings. As a teenager Ethel worked just as hard as the rest of them in the field. She never complained, and their family never went hungry. We believe that is where her hard work ethic started, with the love and devotion of a strong and devoted catholic family. Her love for her mother and siblings was truly unconditional. Ethel was devoted to her Catholic faith, and her many rosaries were never far from her. She prayed for her family and friends in good times and in bad, always. When Ethel said she would pray for you, she meant it. She was a devoted parishioner at almost every Saturday afternoon mass at Our Lady of Fatima Church. Ethel was a wonderful and special daughter and sister. An unconditionally devoted wife and mother, and ‘like a mom’ to many. A loving Grandmother and Great Grandmother. A loving God mother. A special cousin, Aunt and Great Aunt. A true friend to many. A strong, hard working and dependant co-worker, all her years in the work force while raising a family. To know Ethel was to love her, no truer words apply then to her. She lived most of her adult life working and being a wife and mother. She devoted her life to raising her 7 children, including being Cory’s full - time supporter and caregiver when it was needed. She did all this with love in her heart and laughter from her soul. She loved to laugh. She was small but mighty and so proud of her family who she protected fiercely, right or wrong. All who know her, know a piece of her died when Cory left us, but she remained as devoted to her family as ever, caring for her husband Jim until his death with the love she had for him for being the father of her children. A day did not go by that she did not talk to Cory and Dad, up until she could not. Predeceased by her loving husband Jim, her precious son Cory, her loving brothers James, and Emmett and her loving sister Gladys (Byron McEwan). Her in laws Russ Hogg and Anne Fitzsimmons. Loving sister to Jean Hogg, Ralph (Ruthie), Hilda, Bill (Yvette), Earl (Dolly). Loving Sister-in-law to Angela and Shirley. Loving and devoted mother to Jim (Lee Ann), Cathy (Kevin), Anthony (Annie), Glen (Kelly), Darryl and Ethel. Precious Grandmother to Jesse (Pryncez), Mary (Mike), Ambrose, Anthony (Leaha), Luke (Amanda), Catherine, Jennifer, Cory (Kristina), Luke (Katrina) and Lindsey. Loving Great Grandmother to Nevaeh, Aliyah, Connor, Amya, Tori, Ava, Jax, Justus, Julius, Eva, Empress, Lexi and Lucas. Loving Aunt and Great Aunt to many nieces and nephews on both the Luciano and Fitzsimmons side who all thought the world of her, and with whom many she had a very special bond. Devoted friend to many, and special and grateful friend to Lady Di and Debbie Reynolds, and John and Marj Jenzen. Friend and ‘Mom’ or ‘Mrs. L’ to the many family and kids of Parma Court/Wakunda Place, who she says were some of the best times of her children’s lives. Many of the kids from here are sure to have said at least once, “oh no here comes Mrs. L”, as she was bound to be looking for one of us. You all held a special place in her heart. Thanks to her wonderful family doctor Dr. Armen Boyrazian and her palliative care doctor Dr. Seitelbach. Special thanks to her nurse ‘Patsy’ who was a blessing to Ethel, on her mostly daily visit, with her beautiful smile and words of hope and encouragement. To NP Alison for her unconditional help and advice when needed. Each of them has said what a pleasure and joy Ethel was, and we appreciate all their kindness towards her. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Canadian Cancer society in her name.
