December 18, 1936 – December 13, 2025
Fred Morgan, son of Bride Morgan (née O’Connor) of Killorglin, County Kerry, Ireland, passed into the mystery of life beyond this world on December 13th, just shy of his 89th birthday. He was the grandson of Frederick Winchester Morgan of Vancouver.
He lived with Lewy Body’s Dementia and Parkinson’s, but it was the flu that released him. In recent times, he was unable to remember many things, but his quips and quick retorts were sharp and witty. His intelligent dry sense of humour never left him!
Fred grew up in West Vancouver, attended UBC before moving east for his PhD at Western. He married Sharon Corcoran at St. Anthony’s in West Vancouver. He will be remembered by their five adult children (and spouses) who grew up in North York , 11 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren.
As a physics professor specializing in spectroscopy at York University, he was attentive to his students, served on many committees and councils, including as Master of Bethune College, and senior friend for the Student Christian Movement. He had opportunities to research across Canada, in Britain and France. He was an avid photographer, tech whiz, lover of classical music and danced the twist at every wedding he attended. He somehow trained his children that the highest honour was a shiny penny and the greatest gift at all graduations was a large Frosty from Wendy’s.
In lieu of flowers the family requests charitable donations to the Student Christian Movement (of Toronto or Canada) and Development & Peace (Caritas Canada).
Funeral mass will be held Thursday evening December 18th 7pm at Holy Rosary, 354 St Clair Ave West, Toronto, Ontario. Streaming option:
