A devoted husband to Pearl of 74 years (d. March 10th, 2021), he is survived by his beloved family; children, Marilyn (Robert d. May 10th, 2021) and Lorne (Marilyn); grandchildren, Sandra, Catherine, Vanessa, and William; sister Gertrude (Gertie); eight great grandchildren, and many cousins, nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his four brothers: Chesley, Gordon, Allister and Leslie.
Gerry professed to serve God at the age of 16 and enjoyed fellowship and studying his bible through the years. His faith in God and love for his family were unwavering and of utmost importance to him.
A proud Canadian and Newfoundlander, Gerry brought the East Coast charm and culture to Toronto for decades via his seafood and maritime products business. Gerry looked forward to ‘going to the store’ daily to greet customers and ensure their needs were met. Lorne joined Gerry early on to establish L&G Maritime Foods, which became a family business and was later rebranded as Seaport Merchants, remaining rooted in its Newfoundland ties.
Gerry was known to be well-informed by reading newspapers, books and articles, to be at the ready for lively discussions. Among his favourite topics were economics, politics, Canadian business icons, local and world events. Gerry (Pop) adored those talks at the dinner table with Pearl (Nan) at his side, enjoying a meal with company. They were known to entertain often and help others where needed; there was always dessert at the Ralph’s.
Thank you to the Doctors and Medical Staff at Lakeridge Health Sciences and Centenary Hospital for their care. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests a donation to the Scarborough Health Network or the Canadian Cancer Society.
