Jennie Margaret Mayer

Jennie passed peacefully in her 92nd year on Saturday, April 4, 2026. Predeceased by her beloved husband of 53 years, Dr. George P. Mayer and adoring parents, John and Margaret Kohutik, Jennie is survived by her children and their partners; Paul Mayer (Linda Irving), Laurette Glanzmann (Richard), Tom Mayer (Linda Dal Din), Brian Mayer (Dorothy), and Jody McKenzie Mayer (Scott Stokes). She will be lovingly remembered by her grandchildren, Angela, Emilie, Stephanie, Samantha, Miranda, Adam, Erik, Amanda, and their respective partners, as well as by her cherished cousins and her dear friend Beth Plant.

Jennie graduated from the U of T Department of Phys. Ed. in 1954, and went on to complete her teacher’s certification at OISE. Later, Jennie returned to school and received her degree in History from York University. Her love of learning and curiosity about the world served her well during her years teaching in southern Ontario and during her many world travels.

Ever-energetic, Jennie’s zest for life saw her enjoy many hobbies and activities. Between square dancing, curling, weekly aerobics classes (both on land and in water), bridge, theatre-going, and keeping up with her many friends, Jennie kept a full calendar.

Throughout her life, Jennie had an unwavering love of nature. She often spoke fondly of her summers working as a camp counsellor during her university days and later, she experienced great joy in spending summers at the cottage on the Severn River with her family and friends.

The natural kindness and care for others that Jennie radiated will always be remembered by those whose lives she touched. She will be dearly missed.

Resting at the PAUL O’CONNOR FUNERAL HOME, 1939 Lawrence Ave. E. from 1pm to 4pm and 7pm to 9pm, Tuesday, April 14th. Funeral Mass on Wednesday, April 15th at 10:30am in St. Bonaventure Church 1300 Leslie St. Cremation.
