I am your fathers cousin Grace Malloy/Ballantyne.
Your  father and I corresponded and spoke many times over the years.

I am reaching out to you as I had the pleasure of knowing and having John as a cousin. 

I was speaking to your father John, the day before he passed. 
I wanted you to know that he was so excited to be going home to his much loved family. He always boasted about you, his family and shared his family’s achievements.

I wanted you to know that and to send my sincerest condolences.

Big John, 
You will always be remembered for great polished shoes, all that war memorabilia shit hanging off the ceiling in the basement, bayonets and tolerating us messing around in the basement. I learned not to swear around you. Loved your face and laugh  when we brought over a Christmas tree with cigarettes and beer bottles hanging off of it as a lark. Or last year when we met while you were in in the garden - and you, my dad and I had nice chin wag as the buds popped on the trees and the birds sang their merry spring tunes. 

You always lit up when you talked about your grandkids or the ‘Hotel Izzy’ and you were always proud of your kids, speaking of them in glowing terms. 

You gave me a great friend in Kevin, a friendship that I cherish more and more each day, that is now 40 years on. He certainly inherited your quick wit, dry sense of humour and ability to tell a good story. He too is also cynical about the government. 

Here’s to 94 great years Big John, I hope you and Michael reacquainted and he is showing you the ropes on your new journey. Thanks for the Disneyland house coat, still wearing it proudly and thinking of you anytime I put it on. Cheers and thanks.
