From MGH (Michael Garron Hospital) Volunteer Services team
We are saddened to share the passing of another long serving volunteer and friend, John McLaughlin. John passed away on January 9th, 2025, after a brief illness.
John was an outstanding volunteer who spent most of his 28 years of service assisting in the Emergency Department multiple days a week and contributed over 15,000 hours during his time with MGH. In John’s early days of volunteering, he also held leadership roles with the Volunteer Services Association.
John thoroughly enjoyed being in the Emergency Department and often got to know the patients and their families. Our team often called upon John to train our new student volunteers in the ED and many of these students became lifelong friends of John’s. John was very giving of his time and service. In addition to volunteering at MGH, he was also an active volunteer with the Scarborough Health Network and delivered meals to seniors through Meals on Wheels. We thank John for his vast contributions to MGH and the community.
From Scarborough Health Network
John was a model of a committed and dedicated volunteer who serve at the General hospital for over 20 years. He became one of our most reliable volunteer and trainer who trained the new volunteers who were assigned to the emergency department at the General hospital.
