Margaret (Von Zuben) Grant

Margaret (Von Zuben) Grant, 81, died peacefully in her home on August 16, 2020. Margaret was born on December 23, 1938, to the late John and Ruth (Hazel) Von Zuben in Toronto. She is survived by her sister, Helen (Von Zuben) Cichon and her husband, John J. Cichon of Staten Island, New York; nephews John B. Cichon and Rev. Michael W. Cichon; a great-nephew, John N. Cichon and his wife, Sarah; a great-niece, Ann K. Cichon and a great-great nephew, James Nicholas. Margaret is predeceased by her husband, Bernard (Bernie) Grant and her brother, John D. Von Zuben. Marg graduated from Saint Joseph’s High School and worked for IBM. She married Bernie, the man who made her life complete, at Saint Ann’s Church, Toronto on November 12, 1960, and so began a journey of life and love that was interrupted only with his death in 2002. Together they devoted themselves to sharing their love in Toronto and Clearwater, Florida to the point where to speak of one of them was to speak of the other at the same time. Marg and Bernie revealed the strength of their character in their battle with alcoholism. Inseparable, they used their personal experiences to bring light to the darkened lives of countless people. Marg, in a particular way, was known and respected for her dedication to the truth, simplicity, willingness to serve others, and perseverance. While the effects of age and illness limited Marg’s activities over the last years, her concern for those around her will be greatly missed and long-remembered. A viewing is scheduled for 8:30 - 10:30am on Saturday September 5, 2020 in the Paul O’Connor Funeral Home. A Mass of Christian burial at the Church of the Precious Blood will be celebrated at 11:00, with interment to follow at Highland Memory Gardens.

This obituary is beautifully written and it seems that the world has lost a very precious woman - our cousin Margaret. I am so sorry that our families did not stay connected for almost a lifetime. I remember Margaret and Helen as young children when we would go to our grandparents home for Christmas. All these years and so little shared. I am one of Ross’ five daughters and I send our prayers and thoughts to Margaret’s family and friends. Sent with much love and sorrow for your loss. Catherine von Zuben

If roses grow in heaven, Lord please pick a bunch for me, place them in Marg’s arms and tell her they’re from me.

Tell her I love her and miss her, and when she turns to smile. Place a kiss upon her cheek, and hold her for awhile, because remembering her is easy, I do it every day. There’s an ache within my heart that will never go away.

We love you and will always miss you. Diane, Rick and Richard xoxo
