Michael Baker

November 15, 1924October 8, 2020

After a long and memorable life, it is with heavy hearts that we announce that Michael Baker passed away at the L Wing of the Veterans’ Centre of Sunnybrook Medical Centre in Toronto. He was in his 96th year.

Predeceased by his parents, John and Anastasia formerly of Galicia, all of his siblings, most of his nieces and nephews, his first wife, Mary and their newborn child, and of course, his loving and patient wife of 47 years, Wanda(Desaulniers). He is survived by his 5 children: Vicki, Cathy (Wayne), Michael (Oriana), Wendy, and Anastasia (Brent). He was blessed with 8 grandchildren: Chris, Bonnie, Jessica, Melanie, Lionel, Jacqueline, Isabelle, and Addison. He was proud to also have 6 great grandchildren: Kaitlyn, Kennedy, Tyrrel, Jaylah, Anayah, and Zaryah. Michael was an uncle, a great uncle, a great great uncle, and even a great, great, great uncle. Many remember him with both loving and comical tales.

Mike, as he was called, was a plumber and proud member of Local Union 46 of the Plumbers’ and Steamfitters’ for over 50 years. He was a strong supporter of his local Legions. He always looked forward to and enjoyed his yearly family vacations to visit relatives in Spanish, Ontario. Mike also loved to take his family on bigger adventures to Expo ‘67 and even a cross country trek to Vancouver. Back roads and new places invigorated him.

L Wing, ground floor south west was his home for the last 14 months. Thank you to the staff of that floor for the wonderfully kind and loving care he received. "I like it here. They treat me well." , he said recently. The guardian of the hall and lounge has dismounted his post, no more chatter or conversations.
