5 April, 1948 - 30 December, 2025
Ranjani Fernando passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on December 30th, 2025 in Toronto, Canada at the age of 77.
Ranjani was born in Colombo, Sri Lanka to the late Arthur and Mary Fernando and was married to the late Thiagie Weerasinghe. She later migrated with her family to educate her daughters and start a new life in Canada.
After a long career which started with her working for the Sri Lankan Cement Corporation, she retired in the early 2000s. She was blessed to enjoy her retirement with many active years that she spent travelling around the world following her Catholic faith and spending time with friends. She was a very devout Catholic who treasured her pilgrimages to Lourdes, Rome, the Vatican, the Holy Land, and the many shrines in Sri Lanka. She had made friends everywhere she went with her very friendly and outgoing personality. At home, Ranjani loved music and watching her favorite Sri Lankan teledramas and sports, especially tennis. She was delighted to attend all of the Grand Slam Tennis tournaments in the US, France, Australia, and England in person. Most of all, she treasured spending her time with her grandchildren.
At her core, she cared for everyone deeply and affectionately and always strived to help out the needy with a loving heart. She enjoyed volunteering at the soup kitchen for the Mother Teresa Sisters of the Poor to help those in need. At the Scarborough General Hospital, she spent time volunteering throughout the hospital, focusing especially on helping cancer patients.
She will be lovingly remembered by her daughters Dilhari (Ruwan) and Dilani (Roshan), her grandsons Renuk, Dinuk, and Dyan, her sisters Shriyani (Annesley) and Preethie (Randolph), and many other loving family and friends for her sense of humor and enormous love for everyone.
Visitation will take place on Monday, January 5th, from 1:00-3:00pm at Paul O’Connor Funeral Home followed by service at the chapel at 3:00pm. A Cremation will take place at a later date.
The Chapel Service will be available via Livestream by visiting https://fweb.tv/235143
May her memory bring comfort to all who knew and loved her.
