Obituary of Robert Johann Faulhaber
Robert Johann Faulhaber, age 88, passed away on Wednesday May 4, 2022. Beloved husband of 49 years to Sharon Lea Faulhaber. Loving and proud father of his children Christine, John and Barbara. Cherished grandfather to Ava, Luke, Jack, Zoë, Eden, Aidan and Remi. Robert was born in Köln, Germany on September 4, 1933 and trained as a French polisher and varnisher. Upon immigrating to Canada on his own in 1957, he established a thriving business working on fine furniture as a master craftsman. He was respected as one-of-a-kind in his trade. Having a great passion for jazz music, he amassed an extensive record collection and spent many of the early years with Sharon enjoying the live music scene in Toronto. An avid adventurer, he traveled the globe. Archaeological digs in Acapulco in the ‘60s. Family trips to Florida in the ‘80s. Coast to coast driving trips in Canada and the USA in the ‘90s. Then on to China, Turkey and South America in the 2000s, and many more adventures into his later years. A dedicated outdoorsman, he took great pride in his creation and building of the off-grid family cottage “Winnetou Ranch”. From the construction of the winding road, the bridge and intricate solar power system, he was self taught. For 50 years he loved the cottage life and spent much of his time exploring the wilderness, managing the forest and beaver dam, hunting and fishing and tinkering with his boats and “pup motor”. He valued his family time, and was always eager to impart wisdom and share his expertise with those around him. A man with great conviction and integrity, anyone that came in contact with “Mr. Faulhaber” would marvel at his encyclopedic knowledge or laugh at his dry wit. He always left a lasting impression. Robert came to Canada as an immigrant and leaves a powerful legacy. We are heartbroken and feel grateful to have had him in our lives for so long. He enriched our lives in so many ways and will be missed dearly. Visitation and condolences at Paul O’Connor Funeral Home, 1939 Lawrence Avenue East in Scarborough on Sunday, May 15 2-5pm. Family will hold a private burial at St. James Cemetery in Toronto. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Robert’s honour can be made to the Scarborough Hospital Network Foundation or The Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada
