April 18, 1928 – May 26, 2021
Passed away peacefully on May 26, 2021. Beloved wife of Wesley Henry Rowe (deceased); cherished mother of Barbara Lynne Rowe, Lionel Wesley Rowe (deceased) and Neil Jeffrey Rowe; loving grandmother of Alison Ruth Duncan (James), Stuart Rowe (Dodie), Melissa McCrae (Cavan), Matthew Hall (Tracy) and Andrea Walterhouse; proud great-grandmother to Tobias, Linus and Malachi, Duncan, Bentlee and Elliot Rowe, Connor McCrae and Abby McCrae, and Emily Hall and Tiffany Hall. Ruth leaves behind a caring brother, Murray Allan Dennis (Olene). Ruth was predeceased by sisters, Elsie McSpadden (Samuel), Helen Sims (Allan), Florence Wood (Gordon), Grace Wilbee (Ken), Eleanor and her brothers, Don Dennis (survived by Esther) and Grant Dennis (Joanne). She will be fondly remembered by many nieces and nephews. Ruth came to the city as a wide-eyed country girl, and she worked as a switchboard operator for Bell Canada. She met her future husband (Wes), and became a loving wife and mother until she returned to the workforce when her children were of age. She worked as a switchboard operator at the Wellesley Hospital, and a survey/research clerk for Burke International. Ruth was always a wonderful cook, and many friends, neighbours, and relatives enjoyed her generous way of sharing that talent. She volunteered during the Cancer drives, the Heart and Stroke drives, and pitched in for many church events and dinners. She will be remembered for her lively and generous spirit by friends, family members, and numerous people in the Scarborough Community. Her greatest loves were her family and friends, her church and charity contacts, and her music and books. Ruth may be gone in body, but not spirit, and the prayers and shared memories of those who knew her are appreciated at this time. No Funeral Service will be held during this time of COVID, but a memorial reunion will be planned at a safe time in the future. Charitable donations to any registered charity would be greatly appreciated in honouring her life and spirit, as well as everyone’s thoughts and prayers.
Perhaps, if we could see the splendour of the land
To which our loved are called from you and me,
We’d understand.
Perhaps, if we could hear the welcome they received
From old familiar voices - All so dear,
We would not grieve.
Perhaps, if we could know the reason why they went,
We’d smile, and wipe away the tears that flow,
We’d be content.
